Lotte Co. Ltd.'s founder SHIGEMITSU Takeo was born SHIN Kyuk-Ho in Korea in 1922. He went to Japan in 1941 at the age of 19, leaving behind his pregnant wife in Korea, to make money. He soon married the niece of SHIGEMITSU Mamoru, a powerful politician who as the Japanese Foreign Minister signed the surrender document in front of General MacArthur aboard USS Missouri in 1945. https://youtu.be/AsZ0qwJSbuQ?t=30 SHIGEMITSU lost his right leg in a bombing by YUN Bong-Gil, a Korean résistance fighter.

SHIN took his wife's uncle's last name and became SHIGEMITSU Takeo.

He founded Lotte in Japan in 1948 and turned it into one of the largest corporations in Japan at the time. He then founded the Korean branch in 1967. The Korean branch has since grown to surpass the Japanese branch 5 times over(or 20 times, according to some sources) and it is now the 5th largest corporation in Korea.

He used to travel back and forth between Japan and Korea, spending odd months in Korea and even months in Japan to run both branches until 2011. He resides in Korea now.

His two sons, Hiroyuki and Akio have equal number of shares in Lotte, with Hiroyuki, the elder son, being in charge of Lotte Japan and Akio in charge of Lotte Korea, until 2015 when Hiroyuki tried to take over both branches but failed and was pushed out along with his father, by Akio. SHIGEMITSU Akio now heads both Lotte Japan and Lotte Korea.

Most of his family members are Japanese but Hiroyuki and Akio, who were both born in Japan to a Japanese mother, have naturalised in Korea in recent years, possibly to maintain the family's control over the significantly larger Korean branch. Hiroyuki speaks very little Korean while Akio has a conversational knowledge of Korean.

It is not a well known fact in Japan that the founder and CEOs of Lotte are of Korean descent.

SHIGEMITSU Takeo's younger brother SHIN Chun-Ho is the founder of Nongshim, which makes Shin ramyeon.

미국 남북전쟁(1861 – 1865)이 한창 진행중이던때 미국 남부주들은 전쟁이 끝난 뒤 중남미를 침공, 병합할 계획을 가지고 있었다.

북부와의 휴전을 통해 두개로 갈라진 국가가 될 경우에 대비해 중남미를 흡수해서 방대한 국토와 인구로 공업이 전무한 남부의 국가경쟁력을 보완하려는 계획이었다. 남부주들은 북부의 간섭없이 노예제도를 확장할 수 있는 새로운 영토를 원했고, 아직 국력으로나 사회적으로나 안정이 되지 않은 멕시코, 브라질 등은 점령당하기만 기다리고 있는 빈땅으로 보였다.

남부주들은 전쟁중에 멕시코에 첩보원들을 보내 민란을 일으켜보려고 하기도 하고, 브라질 아마존 강 유역을 정탐할 첩자들을 보내기도 했지만, 전쟁에서 지면서 다 헛일이 되고 말았다. 앞에 먼저 브라질에 침략경로를 살펴보러 갔던 남부 미국인들은 결국 남부 골수 노예주의자들이 망명할 땅을 알아보는 일을 하게 됐다.

전쟁이 끝난 다음해인 1866년에 아직 노예제도가 합법이던 브라질 상 파올로주에 적게는 10000명에서 많게는 20000명의 남부 미국인들이 망명해서 아메리까나라는 도시를 이뤘고, 일부는 지금까지 살고 있다. 미국 39대 대통령 지미 카터의 부인의 종조부도 그때 브라질로 망명한 사람들 중 하나였고, 카터도 조지아 주 주지사 시절에 아메리까나를 방문한 적이 있었다.

이번에 사우스 캐롤라이나에서 논란이 된 남부기를 브라질의 아메리까나 시에서도 한동안 사용했었다.

1945년 8월 6일 아침 8시 15분, 미쯔비시 중공업 직원 야마구치 쯔토무씨는 히로시마에 출장중에 핵폭격을 당했다. 핵폭발 장소에서 3킬로미터 떨어진 곳에 있었던 야마구치 쯔토무씨는 상체 왼쪽에 심한 화상을 입고 한쪽 고막이 찢어지는 부상을 당했지만 무사히 응급치료를 받고 귀가했는데, 집은 나가사키였다.

8월 9일 아침에는 이미 상태가 많이 호전돼서 출근까지 할 수 있었다. 11시쯤 직장 상사에게 히로시마에서 겪은 핵폭격에 대해 이야기 하던 중, 다시 3킬로미터 떨어진 곳에 핵폭탄이 떨어졌다. 이번에는 불행중 다행으로 큰 부상은 입지 않았지만 일주일간 고열에 시달렸다.

그 뒤 비교적 일상적인 삶을 살던 야마구치 씨는 노년기에 들면서부터 세계에서 유일하게 공식적으로 두번 핵폭격을 겪은 피해자로서 반핵무기 운동에 앞장 섰고, 역시 피폭자였던 동갑내기 아내와 2010년 같은 해에 93세의 나이로 삶을 마쳤다.

미국은 외세에 의한 폭격을 딱 두번 겪어봤는데, 1929년에 멕시코의 끄리스떼로 전쟁에 반란군편의 용병으로 참전한 미국인 조종사 패트릭 머피가 멕시코 소노라 주의 나꼬라는 동네를 폭격하라는 명령을 받고 아마도 술에 취해서 그 바로 옆에 미국 아리조나의 나코라는 동네를 폭격한게 처음이었다.

두번째는 1942년 2차대전 중 후지타 노부오 병조장(중위)이 일본군 잠수함에서 출격한 비행기로 미국 오레건 주의 산에 두발의 소이탄(주로 화공의 목적으로 사용되는 폭탄)을 떨어뜨렸을때였다. 산불을 내서 미국에 피해를 주겠다는 목적이었지만 산불방지대가 잘 조직된 지역이라서 불은 금방 꺼졌다.

후지타 병조장에게는 그게 굉장한 경험이었는지… 전쟁이 끝나고 20년 뒤 자기가 폭격했던 동네를 다시 찾아가서 자기네 가문에 전해오는 400년된 일본도도 기증하고, 죽기전까지 수차례 방문해서 그 동네 명예시민도 되고, 죽은 뒤 화장된 재를 딸이 그 폭탄이 떨어졌던 자리에 일부 묻기도 했다고…

사람들이 살아가는 방식이 언젠가부터 "나 좋으면 된다"가 전부가 되어가는것 같다. 자기들이 어떤 나쁜짓을 해도 더 이상 부끄러워하거나 무서워하지 않고.. 심지어 누군가가 어떤 방법으로건 돈을 많이 벌었다는 얘기를 들으면 영웅시하는 경향도 사회 전반에 만연해 있다.

개인적인 욕심에 훈민정음을 끝까지 공개하지 않고 결국 훼손시킨 배씨가 그렇고, 이건희를 바라보는 사람들의 시선이 그렇다.

그런 경향의 극단을 보여주는건 일베인것 같다. 자기들이 어떤 끔찍한 말을 하고 끔찍한 행동을 해도 전혀 죄의식 없이 "재미로 그랬는데 뭐 어떻냐"고 떳떳하게 말하는 그들은 배씨와 통하는 부분이 있고, 힘으로 정권을 찬탈하고 권력을 누리고, 결국 단죄 받지 않고 지금도 당당하게 돌아다닌다는 이유로 일베에게 숭앙받는 전두환은 이건희와 맞닿아있다.

삼시 오십삼분이나 세 시 쉰 세 분이 아니고. 시는 순 우리말. 분은 한자어로 읽는다. 왜지?

한 명, 두 명, 하고 적은 수를 셀때는 순 우리말이 맞고 한자어로 일 명, 이 명, 하면 이상해도, 11일 넘어가면 십일명도 꼭 틀리게 들리지는 않는다. 20명이 넘어가면 본격적으로 이십명도 맞게 들리고… 백명이 되면 아예 순 우리말 숫자 온은 쓰이지 않는다. 항상 백명.

생각난 김에 찾아보니 더 이상 쓰이지 않는 순 우리말 숫자들은 온(100), 즈믄(1000), 드먼/골(1,0000), 잘(1,0000,0000), 울(1,0000,0000,0000) 등이 있다고 한다. 진짜인지는 모르겠고, 이젠 온 세상, 골백번 같은 표현에서 남아있고, 숫자로는 쓰이지 않는다.
