Until the early 1990s, Korean was written with as much of its Sino-Korean vocabulary written in traditional Chinese script as the writer could manage. Sometimes none, sometimes 90+% like this. You can still see this plaque if you go to Jongno station in Seoul. Once they realized writing everything in Korean script doesn't really create chaos, especially when people can use context to clarify their intention, they simply stopped using Chinese script entirely within years. It took a few hundred years since the creation of Hangul for Koreans to realize this and it's an excellent example of people or society blindly following tradition without question. It is better to question your social norms and even your morality from time to time to see if the justification is still there. Those who were enthusiastic about the traditional Chinese literature education were livid about the reform but modern day Koreans find Hangul to be much superior in writing Korean and will never go back to those days.
